“I attended Former Madam Vice Precedent Kamala Harris’s 2024 Houston rally where we were surprised by former Destiny’s Child members Kelly Rowland and Beyoncé. Actively attending this rally brought me back to October 11, 2010, the day where I sat in front of my desktop computer screen watching Lady Gaga speak at Former President Barack Obama’s Human Rights Campaign dinner for the LGBTQIA community. This was before the political piece Alejandro protesting to end of the “Don’t ask don’t tell” Bill of 1993 was released, the album Born This Way which included “Americano” a song protesting same-sex love was released, and before June 26, 2015. This was the day I watched my mother scowl as the United States Supreme Court ruled that everyone in all fifty states could love who they chose with pride. Before October 11th of 2011 and June 26th of 2015 laws that propelled bigotry ruled our nation, and in that time people managed to press the play button on her [Gaga] music on an average of 2.5 billion times within four years. This means that Lady Gaga was able to get a message out there at least 2.5 billion times, and that message led the way for these necessary bills to be passed through the impact of music. Reflecting on all of these moments where these women spoke out to larger audiences than they usually performed for allowed me to realize that music creates change. If music creates change then MUSIC IS THE FUTURE OF CHANGE.”
